History Tidbit
The Robert R. Jones Public Library was begun as a tax-supported township library by voter referendum in 1967. However, the Coal Valley Unit, Homemaker's Extension Association began a library as a community service in the early 1940s. The library had no permanent home, and the collection was stored in garages and other facilities when no suitable location could be secured.

TAX FORMS
Limited Availability Due to the move toward electronic filing of income tax returns, the library will provide a reduced number of IRS and Illinois state tax documents. We will still have the common forms and instructions, but other forms should be obtained directly from the IRS or Illinois Department of Revenue.
Please Note: The Library does not provide employer or financial/institutional tax forms such as the 1099 family, W-2 or W-3. Those can be obtained from office supply companies like Staples and Office Max
.

TRANSITION TO NEW CATALOG
RiverShare Catalog Now Online Our transition to the new RiverShare catalog is now complete. You can access your account through the LIBRARY CATALOG ONLINE button of this website to place holds, view your account status or search for materials. If you wish to access the catalog without going through this website, the URL is: http://rivershare.polarislibrary.com .
One useful feature you can activate in your account is Reading History. Once activated, Reading History will keep track of all the titles you have checked out until you delete them. You can avoid duplicating titles you have already read, or perhaps revisit authors you enjoyed and read more of their work.
E-BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE
No Charge E-Books & Audio Books Available We are pleased to now be able to offer free downloads of selected E-Books and Audio Books through the Omni Consortium of Illinois.
Patrons with a valid Robert R. Jones Library card can access the collection by going to www.omnilibraries.org, setting up an account and walking through the tutorials.
As a consortium member, our library will be able to purchase $1,000 worth of new titles each year which will increase the number of titles available for download.
*Please Note: If you are a new e-reader owner, we strongly urge you to become familiar with the procedures for downloading to your particular device before using the OMNI collection. You may wish to attend an instructional class at the Rock Island Public Library on the use of e-readers. Contact the library at 732-7341 to enquire about future classes. There are also several helpful tutorials on the Omni Libraries website.
FAXING SERVICE
Available At The Library Our library provides FAX service during our regular business hours.
Pricing for sending faxes is as follows:
50 cents per page for all local faxes
$1.00 per page first five long-distance fax pages, 50 cents for pages 6 - 10, and $1.00 per page for all pages over 10.
Please be sure you have a correct FAX number since a wrong number must be counted as a charge if the call is completed.
BOOK DONATIONS
Policies For Donations Our library always welcomes donations of new best sellers, popular DVD's and high-interest non-fiction. However, due to our limited storage space we ask that you contact the library first before bringing other materials to donate. Generally, we cannot use old textbooks, magazines, condensed books, VHS-format videos or cassette tapes. Since we are no longer holding regular book sales, we suggest you consider donating these materials to a charitable organization, another library or recycling them.
We also ask that you NOT leave donations by the door after hours. We often find that the materials dropped off are not even suitable for sale and must be disposed of.
Thank you for your cooperation
