About the event

Join us for an enlightening morning with author Bret Grimes as he presents  his powerful book, The St. Elizabeth Hospital Fire in Iowa. This event  delves into the largest tragedies in Quad Cities' history.

On  January 7, 1950, a fire broke out at St. Elizabeth's Mental Health  Facility for women located in Davenport, Iowa, claiming the lives of forty patients and one nurse,  while twenty-five others were rescued in a harrowing attempt to save  those trapped in their locked rooms.

Bret  Grimes will share the stories of those who survived, as well as the  heroic efforts of those who fought the flames. This disaster drew  national attention as the second deadliest event in Iowa and the third  largest hospital fire in the U.S. to date.

Don’t miss this chance to learn about a pivotal moment in Quad Cities history through the lens of this compelling narrative.
