A truly egg-citing event is happening at the library! We are hosting a live egg incubator, and soon, baby chicks will hatch before your eyes. Stop by and witness this incredible journey from egg to chick!

Key Dates to Watch:

  • Eggs Arrive: Friday, April 3rd

  • Egg Candling (Checking for Growth!): Friday, April 10th

  • Hatch Day (Estimated): Monday, April 20th - Wednesday, April 21st

Come visit the library often to check on their progress—you might even see a chick hatch in real time!

What’s Inside the Incubator?

Our eggs are kept in a warm, safe incubator, just like a mother hen would care for them. Here’s what’s happening:

  • Temperature is set at 99.5°F to keep the eggs warm.

  • The eggs are gently turned throughout the day to help the chicks grow properly.

  • Candling lets us check on development—we may even see movement inside the egg!

When the time is right, the chicks will start hatching, using their tiny egg tooth to break free. This process can take several hours, so be patient!

What Happens After Hatching?

After spending a few days at the library, the chicks will move to a cozy new home where they’ll continue to grow. Make sure to stop by before they leave!
