Library Trustee

The Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the library. Trustees work collaboratively to ensure the library remains a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable resource for all residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly board meetings (typically the 4th Thursday at 6:30 PM)

  • Review board materials and participate in discussions and decision-making

  • Help establish policies and guide long-term strategic planning

  • Oversee financial health, including budgeting and expenditures

  • Support and evaluate the Library Director

  • Serve as an advocate for the library in the community

  • Participate in committees, events, and professional development opportunities

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a resident of the Robert R. Jones Public Library District

  • Registered voter within the district

  • Interest in public service, education, and community engagement

  • Willingness to dedicate time for meetings and preparation

  • Ability to work collaboratively and uphold ethical standards

Term & Election Information:

  • Trustees are elected officials serving six-year terms

  • Candidates must complete required election filings, including nominating petitions and statements of candidacy

  • Elections are administered through Rock Island County in accordance with Illinois law

 

Compensation

This is a volunteer position. Trustees are not compensated but may be reimbursed for approved expenses related to their service.
