Programming Assistant (Part-Time)

The Robert R. Jones Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic, and community-focused individual to join our team as a Part-Time Programming Assistant.

Our library is known for dynamic, engaging programs that draw participants from across the region. We are looking for someone who is excited to contribute to that momentum—someone who enjoys working with people of all ages, brings fresh ideas to the table, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Position Overview

The Programming Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and services for children, teens, and adults. This position also plays an important role in providing excellent customer service and assisting with daily library operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and present engaging programs and outreach services for all ages

  • Collaborate with staff to develop new and innovative programming ideas

  • Promote library services through community engagement and outreach

  • Assist patrons with library services, technology, and general inquiries

  • Support daily operations including circulation, shelving, and maintaining collections

  • Create displays, signage, and welcoming spaces within the library

  • Provide instruction and support for digital literacy and technology use

  • Build positive relationships with patrons and community partners

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and adapt to community needs

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous library or programming experience preferred

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Comfort with technology and ability to assist others with digital tools

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and collaboratively

  • Creativity, flexibility, and attention to detail

Schedule & Compensation

  • 16–20 hours per week

  • Evening and weekend availability required

  • $15.00/hour during 90-day probationary period

  • $16.15/hour after successful completion of probation, with potential annual increases
